In June 2006, Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matthew Kisber will lead an official delegation of Tennessee business and government representatives to Australia for a week-long trade mission designed to promote Tennessee products in one of the world’s fastest growing global markets. The trade mission’s official events will begin June 19 and run through June 23.
About Australia
Last year, the U.S. Trade Representative signed a Free Trade Agreement with Australia, giving U.S. companies business-cost advantages and preferential access to the Australian market over other international competitors. Australian customers purchased more than $420 million dollars in goods and services from Tennessee companies in 2005, making the country Tennessee’s 8th largest trading partner.
According to the U.S. Commercial Service, the best prospects for Tennessee companies seeking to enter the Australian market includes, but is not limited to:
- Aircraft and aircraft parts
- Automotive parts and accessories
- Construction machinery
- Franchising
- Cosmetics and toiletries
- Information technology services
- Medical equipment
- Mining industry equipment
- Oil and gas field machinery
- Pollution control equipment
- Safety and security goods and services
- Telecommunications parts and equipment
Trade Mission Highlights
The trade mission will begin with two days in Sydney, including a reception at the U.S. Consul General’s residence and two days in Melbourne, capital of the Australian state of Victoria.
Through its Gold Key Business Matchmaking Service, the U.S. Commercial Service can identify, screen and arrange for appointments with potential business partners for a fee. Indicate your interest on the registration form and a U.S. Department of Commerce officer will contact you with details and pricing.
